A travel to Kyiv – Подорож до Києва

Сьогодні я прилітаю до Києва. (Today I am flying to Kyiv.) Я дуже радий цьому, тому що давно мріяв відвідати країну моїх предків. (I am very happy about this because I have long dreamed of visiting the country of my ancestors.) Київ – це столиця України. (Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine.) Це одне із найстаріших міст Європи. (It is one of the oldest cities in Europe.) У Києві є дуже багато цікавих історичних місць. (There are many interesting historical places in Kyiv.) Серед яких – Києво-Печерська лавра, Золоті ворота, Софійський собор та інші. (Among them are Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Golden Gate, St. Sophia Cathedral and others.) Київ розташований на річці Дніпро. (Kyiv is located on the Dnipro River.) Великі території Києва зайняті парками та садами. (Large areas of Kyiv are occupied by parks and gardens.)

Також, це – великий, промисловий, культурний центр. (Also, it is a large, industrial, cultural center.) Театри Києва відомі не лише в нашій країні, а й в усьому світі. (Theaters of Kyiv are known not only in our country, but also all over the world.)  Київ знаменитий своїми пам’ятниками. (Kyiv is famous for its monuments.) Центральною вулицею Києва є Хрещатик. (The central street of Kyiv is Khreshchatyk.) На Хрещатику знаходяться прекрасні будівлі, що є унікальним архітектурними пам’ятками України. (There are beautiful buildings on Khreshchatyk, which are unique architectural monuments of Ukraine.) Хрещатик виглядає особливо гарним навесні, коли цвітуть київські каштани. (Khreshchatyk looks especially beautiful in spring, when Kiev chestnuts bloom.) Київ — це стародавня і молодіжна столиця, гордість і слава українських людей. (Kyiv is the ancient and youth capital, the pride and glory of the Ukrainian people.)

A travel to Lviv – Подорож до Львова

Львів – одне з моїх найулюбленіших міст України. (Lviv is one of my favorite cities in Ukraine.) Я вже відвідувала це місто п’ять разів, але хочу повертатися туди знову і знову. (I’ve been to this city five times before, but I want to go back again and again.) Львів – це історична столиця Галичини та Західної України. (Lviv is the historical capital of Galicia and Western Ukraine.) Львів також є культурним, політичним і релігійним центром України. (It is a major cultural, political and religious center of Ukraine.) Львів був заснований у середині XIII (13) століття князем Данилом Романовичем біля Звенигорода і названий на честь його сина, Лева. (Lviv was founded in the middle of the XIII (13th) century by Prince Danylo Romanovych near Zvenigorod and named after his son, Lev.) Сьогодні Львів має площу 155 квадратних кілометрів з безліччю громадських будинків, магазинів, готелів і банків у стилі ХІХ-ХХ (19-20) століть. (Today Lviv has an area of 155 square kilometers with many public buildings, shops, hotels and banks in the style of the XIX-XX (19-20th) centuries.) Найбільш виразною частиною Львова є проспект Шевченка та вулиця Городецька. (The most expressive part of Lviv is Shevchenko Avenue and Gorodetska Street.)

Львів – дивовижне місто, яке наскрізь просякнуте ароматом кави та шоколаду. (Lviv is an amazing city, which is filled with the aroma of coffee and chocolate.) Свій візит я починаю із серця Львова – Площа ринок, потім я підіймаюся на Ратушу. (I start my visit from the heart of Lviv – the Market Square, then I go up to the Town Hall.) Я люблю відвідувати місця, які стали візитною карткою Львова, такі як “Копальня кави”, “Дім Легенд”, “Майстерня Шоколаду”, “Гасова Лямпа” та “Криївка”. (I like to visit establishments that have become business cards of the city such as: Coffee Mine, Chocolate Workshop, Gas Lamp, House of Legends.)

Львів — єдине місто в Україні, у якому збереглися архітектурні споруди часів Ренесансу. ( Lviv is the only city in Ukraine where architectural structures of the Renaissance have been preserved.) Найяскравішими прикладами є церква Успіння та каплиця Трьох Святих. (The most striking examples of this style are the Church of the Assumption and the Chapel of the Three Saints.) Основні пам’ятники міста – це пам’ятник Адаму Міцкевичу, Івану Франку, Василю Стефанику та Степану Бандері. (The main monuments of the city are the monument to A. Mickiewicz, I. Franko, V. Stefanyk, and S.Bandera.)

Екскурсії середньовічними замками також не залишають нікого байдужими. (A tour of the medieval castles also did not leave them indifferent.) Неможливо передати всю велич та красу Львова, треба лише самому приїхати бачити це самостійно. (It is impossible to convey in words all the beauty and grandeur of Lviv, you need to see it for yourself.)

Львів – це старовинне місто, яке зачаровує своїм традиціями, красою та шармом. Ви коли-небудь були у Львові? Тобі сподобалось там? (Lviv is an ancient city that enchants with its traditions, beauty and charm. Have you ever been to Lviv? Did you like it there?)

A dialogue “Travel to Ukraine” – Діалог “Подорож до України”

-Привіт, Джоне. (Hello, John.)

-Привіт, Алекс. (Hello, Alex.)

-Як твої справи? Що нового? (How are you doing? What’s new?)

-Все добре. Збираюсь скоро у відпустку. А у тебе як справи? (Everything is fine. I’m going on vacation soon. And how do you do?)

-У мене також добре. Круто! Куди ти збираєшся летіти? (I’m fine too. Cool! Where are you going to fly?)

-В Одесу, це місто в Україні. (To Odesa, this is a city in Ukraine.)

-Справді? Чому саме Україна? (Really? Why Ukraine?)

-Я маю дівчину в Україні і ми збираємося разом провести час. (I have a girlfriend in Ukraine and we are going to spend time together.)

-Коли ти маєш виліт? (When do you have a flight?)

-Завтра о восьмій вечора. (Tomorrow at eight o’clock in the evening.)

-Що ти будеш робити в Одесі? (What will you do in Odessa?)

-Я буду гуляти містом, дивитися пам’ятки, їсти смачну українську їжу та відпочивати на Чорному морі. (I will walk around the city, see the sights, eat delicious Ukrainian food and relax on the Black Sea.)

-Звучить цікаво. Розкажеш потім як все було і я хочу побачити фотографії. (Sounds interesting. Please tell later how everything was and I want to see the photos.)

-Звісно. Я привезу тобі сувенір. (Sure. I’ll bring you a souvenir.)

-Чудово. Гарної тобі подорожі. (Great. Have a nice trip.)

-Дякую! До побачення. (Thanks! Goodbye.)

-Будь ласка! До побачення. (You are welcome! Goodbye.)

Lesson 25. Dialogue for print

Dialogues represent what most of us aim for: communicating with others in a foreign language. Natural language dialogues are essential to learning because they illustrate the language. They provide real examples of vocabulary, form, and function.
